Our Story: From a Pastor's Heart to Global Missions with HelpOthers. One
Hey there--pull up a chair. If you're here, you're probably wondering what sparked this little engine called HelpOthers.One.
It's a story born in the quiet corners of faith, heartbreak, and a relentless tug from God to do more. Let me take you back, because knowing where we started-- it makes every meal gifted, every backpack filled, feel like family.
During 2023, the tail end of a world still reeling from pandemics and divides, Rev. Bruce Nolen— that's me, your Founder/CEO/Minister—was knee-deep in ministry life at our local church here in Georgia.
Ordained for over 40 years, I'd worn every hat: Lead pastor at Southern churches from Louisiana & Mississippi, chaplain walking families through unimaginable loss, bereavement counselor holding hands in the darkest hours.
My MDiv from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary equipped me with theology's fire, but real life forged the steel. Married to my LSU sweetheart for nearly 50 years (shoutout to my rock, Jackie), and "Papa" to a house full of grandkids—life was full, but something nagged.
It hit! Psalms 46:1 echoed: "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
Trouble? It was everywhere—kids in Haiti orphanages skipping meals, Honduran villages without clean water, Ugandan classrooms crumbling under poverty's weight. As a Christian non-profit dreamer, I couldn't shake it. "God, if not me, who?" I prayed. And just like that, HelpOthers. One was born: A 501(c)(3) beacon to bridge genuine needs with faithful hands.
We didn't start with a bang—no gala launches or viral campaigns. It was humble: Vetting ministries on the ground (Charette Baptist in Haiti, The Way and Truth in Honduras, Living Savior in Uganda). Our first "win"? A $500 drive that shipped 200 hygiene kits to Haitian kids—simple soap and smiles turning "survival mode" into hope.
Bruce's favorite line? "Smile—it'll give you a facelift." (Steal that one; it works.) But behind the grins: Jackie and I praying. Lots of praying.
Every gap—meals, shoes, tuition—became our mission. Why? Because Jesus didn't just talk love; He lived it!
Fast-forward to today: Over 150 kids fed daily, 1,000+ meals gifted since launch, aid flowing to vetted partners.
Milestones? 2024's Uganda school rebuild (your donations built roofs and futures). 2025's Haiti tuition drive (aiming 40 sponsors-$25 changes everything). Challenges? Plenty—shipping delays, heart-wrenching stories that keep us up.
But triumphs? Haitian orphan's sharing a meal and a Church in Uganda rejoicing, singing "Thank you, God-and those you generously shared."
That's the ripple: One gift sparks joy, peace, strength. What sets us apart in the Christian non-profit world? Transparency (100% to field, audited reports), inclusivity (every life, every faith walk matters), and partnership (you + us = unstoppable). No overhead bloat-just hearts aligned with Matthew 25:40: "Whatever you did for the least... you did for Me."
